STORYLINE

July 4, 2011 Dan Renzo Ynguine Villano Garcinez, 16 years old then, and serving the Lord as a Bible student, asst. preacher, choir director violin, guitar and piano teacher, was diagnosed at Cho Rai Hospital, Vietnam with malignant brain tumor. The doctors there said that his prognosis was very poor. He had to undergo surgery ASAP. But we were told that even if he undergoes surgery, he will only live for 1 year. Our hearts were broken but trusted God for everything. The local Christian brethren there ( some of whom are his fruits ) and fellow workers in God's vineyard all over the world begged God for his life.

July 8, 2011 He was flown back to the Philippines for a 2nd opinion, more tests and treatment. The good news was, we were told by his doctor that only a biopsy can tell if the tumor is malignant or benign. Prayer partners rejoiced and prayed unceasingly for him.He was immediately admitted at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center and underwent four major brain surgeries ( 2 craniectomy and 2 vp shunting )in a span of 2 months ( 1st on July 21, 2011 & the 2nd one on Aug. 25, 2011 ). In spite of the risks, 4 episodes of pneumonia and 1 episode of a collapsed lung before his 2nd surgery, God saw Renzo through. His chief neuro surgeon was a real blessing and favor from the Lord too.A fellow pastor's son in the person of Dr. Roy Allan Torquator, present head of St. Luke's Brain Tumor Comprehensive Center, both in E. Rodriguez and Global . Dr. Torquator did all these for free.

Renzo was discharged from Jose Reyes Medical Center after 2 mos of confinement last September 2, 2011, a day before his 17th birthday. He celebrated his birthday on September 3, 2011 on wheel chair but with faith that he will be back to normal life again, doing the things that he used to do before in God's vineyard, in God's perfect time. Our whole family, loved ones and some brethren were there to rejoice with him in God's goodness and faithfulness in his life.

On September 6, the unexpected happened. The supposed out-patient planning at St. Luke's, E. Rodriguez, Quezon City for his radiotherapy treatment turned out to be a nightmare. After he underwent CT scanning, he became unconscious. His doctor and the medical staff tried to revive him. He became conscious again but his doctor told us that Renzo's brain suddenly swelled and the tumor residue which was supposed to be eliminated through radiotherapy enlarged again, pressing on his brain stem, thus he badly needed to be confined in an ICU for intensive care and close monitoring ASAP. There was no vacant ICU bed in a govt. hospital where he was supposed to be confined, hence he was confined at St. Luke's Medical Center that very day. He went into comatose at 9pm on the same day.

He underwent another surgery ( permanent VP Shunting ) that very night, as last recourse to save his life. But his doctor also told us it might even worsen his condition. We just prayed.

The following day, he was already at the Neurocritical Intensive Care Unit but still in comatose state. The neuro ICU doctor told us that it was impossible clinically for Renzo to survive and wake up again because of the mass that was pressing on his brain stem ( which only radiotherapy can treat but cannot be administered to him because he was in coma ) and the other complications which worsened his condition - a swollen brain, sepsis ( infection of the blood ), dehydration, yeast infection, malnutrition and a lot more. We were further informed that though treatments are being administered to these complications, because he was on steroids which suppressed his immune system to respond to treatments, there was a very poor chance for survival. Our son was already posturing for death, we were further told. Anytime that day and night on September 7, 2011, we might lose our son. Prayers were offered for him by fellow servants of the Lord and thousands of brethren around the globe.

Praise God Almighty! After 2 days in comatose state, He touched Renzo’s body and woke him up. We told the ICU doctor that it was God's miracle which caused Dan Renzo to survive. Definitely! was her instant reply. To God be the glory!

After 17 days in the Neuro ICU, our son Dan Renzo was moved to a regular room and underwent daily radiotherapy. He was weaned from the ventilator for a period of two weeks  to the amazement of his pulmo doctors who told us from the beginning that Renzo’s going to go home connected to the ventilator with the suction machine at bedside. Praise God for His mercy and grace!

Renzo’s strange journey for the past 6 months have been filled with unexpected twists and turns. We witnessed his both his pains and gains...his sorrows and joys... his physical incapacity and recovery. God’s grace saw us through it all. He taught us to “ Stand still and know that He is God! “

For unceasingly upholding our beloved Renzo in your prayers and helping in your own special way, our sincere gratitude. God bless you more. His journey towards complete recovery might take time. But we praise God that Renzo is not alone..All of you have  a part in the daily miracles God is performing in his life.

God’s name be magnified and glorified in the life of our son Dan Renzo Ynguine V. Garcinez through all these!
